Pads

What is a pad for random orbital sander?
It is a backing tool for abrasives to be mounted on pneumatic or electric sanders and it is usually made up by three sections: a plastic one, a rubber one and a specific surface for abrasive disc fixing by Velcro® or self-adhesive system.

FUSION backing pad
On the occasion of the new Millennium, Abrex- System revolutionized  sanding and dust suction system by the ideation of Twister backing pad.
In the year 2014, thanks to the 30 years’ experience gained in this field, we designed and manufactured the new FUSION pad.

This new revolutionary tool combines both the features of our Winner and Twister pads.
In detail:
> Its edge is thin in order to reduce vibrations to a minimum and to allow certain processes in difficult positions.
>The total weight is 130gr, that is the one which is recommended by all manufacturers of sanding machines in order to get the perfect balance without any vibration during sanding.
> Dust extraction is direct, through the 42 through holes, while the remaining 55 holes convey dust into special channels in the plastic plate.
As a consequence, suction results to be strong and uniformly distributed over the entire surface of the tool
Thanks to this, together with an appropriate Velcro system, the end user will be able to use any kind of abrasive disc, without any waste of time for hole matching and getting always optimal dust extraction.
The hole design concentrates a large number of holes in the central part of the tool, since this is the position where the first clogging problems happen due to the fact that the peripheral speed is almost nothing.
Extraordinary performance with net, multi hole and standard hole pattern discs.
> Sizes available Ø150mm and Ø125mm.

FUSION Plus backing pad
The continuous studies and improvements, the release of new sanders on the market have led us to modify and improve the Fusion Pad conceiving the Fusion Plus.

During the 2014, thanks to the Fusion Pad we reached very high results in terms of vibrations and dust free removal. In order to improve further, we wanted to keep the peculiarities working on any possible improvements. The 42 holes in the central part of the pad are important features to take fixed, producing in tapered shape and exploiting in this area the Venturi effect with a consequent increase in suction speed.
The idea of developing the Fusion Plus is born from the necessity to improve the dust removal on the 55 holes placed on the edge side of the pad surface.
Then we produced the cover plate with a cavity ring closed with a fiberglass plate with chemicals and mechanical fixing.
Thanks to this system we achieved a well balanced suction on all the abrasive disc area, cooling and removing a bigger quantity of dust.
The improvement of the dust free removal coincides with a clean surface in a better work place increasing the time life of the abrasive disc.
This pad achieves great performance with net discs, multiholes discs, but it could be used also with traditional discs with 15,9 and 7 holes.
It has been made an update, making the pad suitable with many electric and pneumatic sanders on the market.

rotantiWhat is a Pad for Rotary Machines?

It is a tool assembled on pneumatic or electrical sanders that rotates clockwise.
It generally consists of a plastic support, an intermediate part in neoprene rubber and a special surface for attachment of the abrasive disc (e.g. self-stick or Velcro®system).

They are produced in 6 different diameters: Ø73 mm, Ø113 mm, Ø123 mm, Ø147 mm, Ø178 mm and Ø197 mm with two different threads: M14 and 5/8”.They are normally used for sanding with abrasive discs, as supports for resin buffers and Merinos wool hoods for polishing.platorelli rotanti

They are used in the industrial bodywork, automobile bodywork, railway carriage bodywork, nautical, metal and wood-working, marble-working and the general masonry fields. The Ø197 mm model is used for dust extraction and is produced with 8 or 24 holes +1 central hole.

The latter is highly interesting on account of outstanding suction with consequent extension of abrasion efficiency thanks to rational distribution of the holes over the entire surface area of the disc.It is, more specifically, used with ROUGH, MEDIUM AND FINE grain to machine railway, nautical, coach and refrigerator truck bodywork. They are also used for final sanding of teak bridges on boats. All the pads in this range can be produced with rubber of different hardness ratings for specific applications.

Materials and Personalisation:

> High quality plastic materials are used for these products; colours can be personalised at the customer’s request according to quantity.

> It is also possible to personalise by printing company logos and make personalised

What is a Back up Pad?

It’s a support for abradants which is mounted onto the pneumatic or electric orbital sander and is generally composed of a part in plastic, a part in rubber and a specially designed surface for the attachment of the abrasive disc using a self-stick or Velcro® system.

Twister Back up Padsplatorelli twister
The Twister back up pad is the result of Abrex-System’s twenty years of experience in the flexible abradants sector applied to bodywork, production and car repair, nautical, aeronautic and timber trades. It’s covered by an international patent EP1186379. It has been designed and produced in the Abrex-System machine shops with the aim of improving the basic results of sanding using pneumatic orbital sanders.

This pioneering technology prevents bottlenecks in the flow of dust during aspiration by channelling it directly through the “chamber”. The system means that the speed and volume of the air being sucked in can be increased, with the consequent following advantages:

1. continual cooling of the surface being sanded and of the abradant itself, thus prolonging its life by 30% according to laboratory tests.

2. improved removal of dust from the work surface and the air, thus improving the health of the operator and the quality of the work.

Thanks to its special composition, it’s possible to produce all the standard perforations: 7, 9 holes and other innovative perforations such as: 21 holes, 75 holes and other mapping, exclusively customised to the client’s design  (MULTIHOLE) without infringing on the planarity of the back up pad itself.

The Twister pad has been designed and produced in the      Abrex-System S.r.l. machine shops using the best materials, able to give the final product the right  requisites for vibration-free sanding.

A determining role in all this is played by our production plants with specially built machinery and a control system which enables constant checking throughout the production cycle, to obtain a final product with an extremely high quality standard.

This utensil also falls within the recommended weight parameters of the most import orbital sander manufacturers.

This presentation gives an idea of its many features such as the ability to customise the plastic part, the range of perforations available and the materials used which. All together make it a unique, exclusive product destined to become a benchmark on the international market.

Materials:
> High quality plastics, chosen according to their specific characteristics of weight, stability and mechanical resistance. Possibility of customising the product in various colours.

Customisation:
> As well as the colour , customising may also take the form of applying labels showing pictograms, in other words the obligatory safety measures to be adopted during sanding, the maximum speed to be used with the tool and any company logos.
Creation of customised boxes.

Attachment:
> Adaptors and screw are also provided to enable attachment to all types of currently available sanders.
Version with universal threading: with burnished screws 5/16” UNF and washers.
FESTO® version: with galvanised screw M8 and adaptor.

Hardness:
> The rubber part supporting the abradant may be:
- Extra hard (BLUE) for rough grinding with hard grains.
- Medium hard (BLACK) for sanding with medium grains.
- Soft (WHITE) for sanding with fine grains.

Attachment systems of the abrasive disc:
> Velcro® system (standard production)
> Self-adhesive system (on request)

Accessories:
> Soft interfaces. With the simple addition of a soft interface the back up pad can be easily transformed for sanding with fine grain.
It’s an immediate and economical solution.
Available in 2 thicknesses 10 and 5 mm.
